A few weeks ago on a wet Saturday morning we were invited toThe Epstein Theatre in Liverpool to watch a stage performance of The Tiger Who Came to Tea. The Epstine theatre is beautiful art deco building right in the town centre.
I loved this staircase
The Tiger Who Came to Tea is a children’s classic and one we know and love. So I was really intrigued to see how it would translate to stage as the story it self only takes 5 minuets to read. Bear knows the story well, its a firm favourite in our house and at pre school.
We arrived early and got an amazing tiger toy which bear hasn’t stopped hugging since. into our seats and waited for the show to start. I really liked the start to the show as the characters came in from side entrances and waved to the audience before making their way up on to the stage.
The story was beautifully told, staying true to the original book whilst adding in extra detail and music to make it work for stage. I loved the Tiger himself was my favourite and Bear thought he was great with his big gestures and comical hello.
He was completely in awe of the fact that the Tiger had actually managed to “eat” all the food. He looked amazing , the most elegant tiger I’d ever seen. He was very polite and occasionally comical which bears reply was to laugh as loud as he possibly could.
I wasn’t expecting bear to manage to sit through it but in actual fact he was completely enthralled from the start but of course there were one or two toilet breaks 🙂 I can’t wait to take bear back to the theatre, or even the cinema.
